Muncie doctor pleads guilty to charges in 3 cases, including obstruction of justice, Medicaid fraud

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. — A Muncie doctor who was previously convicted of illegally writing drug prescriptions has pleaded guilty to charges in three separate cases.

According to court documents, 62-year-old William Hedrick pleaded guilty to the following charges in three different cases in Delaware County:

• One count of unlawful dispensation of a controlled substance
• One count of Medicaid fraud
• One count of obstruction of justice
• One misdemeanor count of harassment by telegraph, mail or other written communication

Hedrick was previously sentenced to two years of house arrest after he was found guilty of forgery and prescription-related registration offenses. This was related to his work at the Centers for Pain Relief location in Muncie, stating that Hedrick’s decisions at the clinic led to the deaths of eight people by over-prescribing pain medications.

Hedrick also faced charges of Medicaid fraud, coming after he submitted “false and fraudulent information” to the Indiana Medicaid program for reimbursement. As officials prepared for his trial in that case, a potential witness approached the state, claiming that Hedrick had contacted her in reference to the trial.

The witness told the state that she was harassed by Hedrick related to the case, claiming that Hedrick offered her money multiple times in exchange for meeting with him and to “work on” his case.

According to court documents, Hedrick’s sentencing is scheduled for June 13.
