    Update: Police Searching for Carjacking Suspect Near Echo Lake Park Wednesday

    MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — Police are actively searching the area of Route 22 near Echo Lake Park for a carjacking suspect, Mountainside Police said in a Nixle alert Wednesday, May 8, at about 10:24 a.m.

    “The suspect is described as a Black male wearing red shorts, black hooded sweatshirt and black sneakers,” police said. “Also wearing a checkerboard pattern face mask.”

    Police asked people in the area to remain inside and lock their doors.

    “Report any suspicious activity or people matching the clothing description to police at 908-232-8100. There is no known direction of flight,” police said.

    At 12:35 p.m., police updated the public, saying that no arrest had been made made yet.

    “Police are continuing their investigation and will issue updates through the media or Facebook,” police said in the second alert.
