Township announces Thanksgiving food drive

Cherry Hill Township is encouraging residents to give back this holiday season through its annual Thanksgiving food drive, with donations accepted now through Nov. 23. Community members can drop off food donations at several township locations, including the Cherry Hill Municipal Building, 820 Mercer St., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Croft Farm, 100 Bortons Mill Road, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Cherry Hill Public Library, 1100 Kings Highway, will also accept donations Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Additional donation locations include the Cherry Hill Food Pantry, 910 Beechwood Ave., and Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Southern New Jersey. Residents interested in donating at these locations should call ahead for drop-off availability. For more information, contact the Cherry Hill Food Pantry at (856) 910-9090 or Jewish Family and Children’s Service at (856) 433-8225. Let’s drink to that! A New Jersey suburb voted Tuesday to ditch its 138-year-old prohibition on liquor licenses, paving the way for booze sales. Located in Camden County — roughly six miles outside Philadelphia — the borough of Collingswood had been famously dry for generations before residents backed the binding referendum , according to NJ.com. The Collingswood liquor licensing referendum remains close, with approval narrowly ahead. At publication time, results showed 3,506 "yes" votes and 2,322 "no" votes with some votes yet to be counted. If voters approve the referendum, select restaurants could serve alcohol to customers dining on site, ending the current requirement that diners bring their own alcoholic beverages. More on midterms: Van Drew concedes to Mullock, other South Jersey results rolling in Collingswood would initially issue four licenses. Interested businesses would need to apply. Officials would hold public meetings to set local rules on where and how licensed businesses could operate. Whether voters approve or reject the referendum, the outcome would remain in effect for at least five years before the issue could return to the ballot.
