Public hearing ahead Wednesday on closure of Logan Avenue
Logan Avenue Elementary’s future will be the only topic of discussion for the USD 253 Board of Education on Wednesday. The board has a special meeting at a special time, 5:30 pm, and the only item of note is a public hearing regarding the possible closure of Logan Avenue. The proposed closure is the centerpiece of the district’s cost containment process due to the better than $1.4 million in cost savings out of nearly $5 million in cuts needed to meet district budget goals. The board tentatively approved the closure in April, but a protest petition triggered a review by the Kansas State Department of Education that ultimately supported the district’s initial decision.
