Savannah man suffers minor injuries in collision with train
(Oregon) -- One person was injured in a semi versus train collision in Holt County Friday evening. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on Unity Road shortly after 4:10 p.m. roughly three miles south of Oregon. Authorities say a 2000 Kenworth T800, driven by 47-year-old Jason Smith of Savannah, was northbound on Unity Road when it began reversing to turn onto Holt 340 and traveled onto the tracks. The patrol says the vehicle was then struck on the passenger side by a westbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.

Kristin Woodruff, HCC sociology instructor, started taking college courses through Highland Community College when she was still in high school. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in legal studies and juvenile delinquency from Missouri Western State College (now MWSU). She earned a master's degree in social work from the University of Kansas. After securing an LMSW license in the State of Kansas, Kristin began her career as a school social worker in Liberty, Missouri.

School Board discusses fuel issues, hires new staff
The Hiawatha School Board met in regular session Monday evening and discussed fuel and bus issues, accepted several resignations and hired new staff. The board — minus Amy Koppe and Jacquie Spihlmann — voted to approve the Agenda, but first discussed moving an item concerning candidate positions within the district off. Board President Ian Schuetz said with two missing board members he wanted to move this discussion to April. Board member Jim Robidoux said he wanted to move forward on the discussion in order for candidates to know sooner rather than later. It was approved to hold off, 4-1 with Robidoux voting no.
