RCSO arrest report
FALLS CITY - The Richardson County Sheriff’s Office reports arrests through Thursday on charges that include conspiracy, tampering with evidence and possession. Janeen Moyer, 27, of Humboldt was arrested March 8 on a Richardson County warrant for conspiracy to commit a felony. An arraignment in district court is scheduled March 21.

Cruise Planners celebrate grand opening downtown
The Cruise Planners, a franchise travel agency, opened a downtown Hiawatha location this month and celebrated a grand opening Tuesday evening. Jen and John Hoschouer opened Cruise Planners nearly a year ago in their Hiawatha home and recently decided to take the leap and open a location downtown at the corner of Sixth and Oregon.

Police: Kansas man robbed bank and went to McDonald's
SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a bank robbery and quickly made an arrest. Just before 1 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a bank robbery in the 2400 block of S. Seneca, according to Officer Chad Ditch. An employee of Emprise Bank reported a man had passed a note to a clerk demanding money and claiming to have a weapon.
Lamonia F. Lammers Bauer
Lamonia “Mona” F. Lammers Bauer of Abilene passed away March 8 in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 75. She was born in Hopkins, Missouri January 11, 1948 to Ralph Lammers and Alberta Hughes Steeby Lammers. In 1966 she graduated high school from Buchanan County R-IV High School in De Kalb, Missouri. She then attended Job Corp where she graduated in 1968 with nurses training. On July 22, 1972 she married Donald E. Bauer at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, Kansas. Many knew her as a custodian at both Abilene High School and Abilene Middle School until she retired in March of 2019. She is survived by her children: Ralph Bauer of Abilene, Barbara Bauer of Abilene, and Carrie Kautz (Ben) of Raytown, Missouri. Grandchildren: Kiersten Bauer of Abilene, and Patrick Kautz of Raytown, Missouri. Siblings: Jovita Evans of St. Joseph, Missouri, Alfreda Lammers of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Otis George Steeby (Ellen) of Valley Falls, Kansas. Aunts: Velma Day (Johnnie) of Kansas City, Missouri and Phyllis Hughes of Overland Park, Kansas. In-laws: Arlan Bauer (Deb) of Wichita, Kansas, Darrell Bauer (Sara) of Hiawatha, Darlene Covert of Hiawatha, Carol Bauer of Sabetha, Kansas, and Leona Bauer of Buffalo, Kansas. She also has many nieces, nephews, cousins, and adopted children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, step mother Deloras Lammers, brother Freddie Steeby, granddaughter Charli Kautz, nephews: Wayne Covert, Michael Steeby, and Robert Steeby, Nieces: Debbie Bailey, Heather Steeby, Alberta Steeby, Brother in-laws: Virgil Koerperich, Harlan, John, and Harold “PeeWee” Bauer, Sister in-laws: Esther Koerperich and Virgina Steeby. Visitation will be Friday March 17 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be Saturday March 18 at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Abilene Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to Faith Lutheran Church Christian Education.

ATCHISON COUNTY —For the second time in seven months, a Kansas woman is in jail for a criminal trespass. On Wednesday, police arrested 29-year-old Corinne L. City approves rate increases for Fisher Center and Aquatic Park
The Hiawatha City Commission met on Monday evening, and the group approved a pair of ordinances marking increases in rates for the Fisher Center and the Hiawatha Aquatic Park. Per the new ordinance, rates at the Fisher Center will increase by the room. Meeting Room 1 will increase from $15 per hour to $20 per hour, Meeting Room 2 will increase from $30 per hour to $40 per hour, the gym went from $60 per hour to $70 per hour, or $300 per day to $500 per day, and the rates for the entire facility moved from $90 per hour or $500 per day to $125 per hour or $925 per day.
District daycare OK'd at Holton
On a 5-2 vote here Monday evening, the Holton school board approved a motion to establish a district daycare starting with the next school term, utilizing two classrooms at the Holton Elementary School and employing two licensed instructors and one assistant. Board members Terry Lierz and Ryan Phillips voted against the measure with Lierz expressing support for a smaller scale start to the daycare than the one approved.
