MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Collections began around Monongalia County on Monday for the 19th annual Blue & Gold Mine Sale, which looks to redistribute gently used items donated by WVU students and residents of Morgantown.

The sale will be hosted by the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties and WVU’s Office of Sustainability at the East Concourse of Milan Puskar Stadium on May 11.

“This goes towards our WVU campaign and those funds that we collect are allocated to different agencies and organizations throughout the Morgantown and Monongalia and Preston County areas. So what this is, is an opportunity for everyone to be involved, so people in the community can bring their items and donate. It’s just a way to give back to their community,” WVU Campaign Graduate Assistant Marissa Earle said.

Earle said the sale’s usual goal is to raise around $1.2 million each year with some of the funds raised going toward things like childcare, veterans, food and shelters. She said that the sale wasn’t able to meet that goal for the 2024 season, but they’re hoping to do so in the 2025 season, with this year’s Blue & Gold Mine Sale serving as the kickoff.
