Kentucky high school football team forfeits game in ultimate showing of school spirit
A Kentucky high school football team paid the ultimate sacrifice to show off its school spirit on Thursday, Oct. 29. The Shelby County High School (Shelby, KY) football team opted to forfeit its matchup against Fairdale (KY) to attend the school's volleyball regional final against North Oldham (Goshen, KY). Athletic director and head football coach Powell Miller told high school reporter Jason Frakes of the Louisville Courier-Journal — part of the USA TODAY Network — that the school attempted to move the game to Wednesday or Friday, but decided to forfeit when the game could not be moved. "That’s a big deal for us,” Miller told Frakes. The football game between Shelby County and Fairdale was set to be played at Doss High School (Louisville, KY), but with Doss in action on Friday and Fairdale unable to host due to construction at its stadium, the game had to be forfeited. Unfortunately for the Rockets — which qualified for the regional final for the first time — the match ended in a 3-1 loss at Eminence High School in Henry County. The forfeit dropped Shelby County to 3-7 on the season. The Rockets return to the field on Friday, Nov. 6,
