Chef Lee Frank’s Mazon opening soon at former Arrows site in York
YORK, Maine — Chef Lee Frank has been renovating a 1750 farmhouse for the last five to six months and is ready to open his new restaurant at the former home of Arrows. Mazon, now sporting a fully renovated interior, is expected to open by Nov. 29. Frank said the restaurant will offer multi‑course meals reminiscent of his work at Otis in Exeter . After several months focused solely on “flipping burgers” at his Lee Frank’s burger locations in Exeter and South Berwick, he’s eager to return to fine‑dining cooking. “Definitely excited to get back in the kitchen and start,” Frank said. “It feels like it’s been a very long time.” The opening is an exciting new chapter for Frank and his family, as his wife, Brooke, is heavily involved in opening Mazon. The property is special to the couple, as they met while working under the owners of Arrows’ other location, MC Perkins Cove. Brooke was also pregnant with their child when Frank moved up to working at Arrows under the Frank Beard award-winning chefs who owned it — Mark Gaier and Clark Frasier. Working at Arrows was a big step for Frank, who went on to be nominated

Rolling Thunder Picks Up Wreath Laying Tradition
Local veterans’ groups have cut ties with controversial non-profit Wreaths Across America and are planning to scale back the annual pre-Christmas wreath-laying ceremony. The Southern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, which has hosted the annual event, and Rolling Thunder Maine Chapter 1, which raises funds for the event, say they could no longer afford the affiliation. Last year, it cost more than $78,400 to lay wreaths for all 2,800 graves, according to Linwood Dall, member of the cemetery board. The cost would have been higher this year since the cemetery has expanded to 3,300 graves.

Dover finds new site for temporary warming center, with cots
DOVER — City officials announced the Veterans Building at 156 Back River Road will be used as a temporary emergency cold-weather warming center starting Nov. 15, instead of the McConnell Center cafeteria , and it will have cots for sleeping. The McConnell Center had been previously announced as the temporary site because of construction delays for the new Strafford County warming center , which is being built on County Farm Road. The new center won't be ready for the start of the 2026-27 season, which runs mid-November to mid-April. Dover officials previously said the McConnell Center cafeteria would not have offered beds or cots, only chairs, and members of the homeless population using that site would have to leave by 7 a.m. due to other operations in the building, which includes city and school offices and a daycare. The city-owned Veterans Building has room for cots, city officials announced. Strafford County’s contracted warming center operator, East Coast Evolution Leadership, will run the center at this location and the new center, when it opens. Officials stated the warming center is opened based on weather, as determined by the emergency management directors of Dover, Rochester and Somersworth, when extreme or severe weather
