Maine Man Stabbed Multiple Times and Gun Fired during Bike Robbery
Two 21-year-old men were arrested after a 38-year-old man was stabbed and gunshots fired during a confrontation and bike robbery. The victim had multiple stab wounds in his back, said police. His name and age were not released. The incident happened Thursday around 4:30 pm at the intersection of Emery Street and Heritage Crossing in Sanford.

In the 71 years that the Turnpike has been around, there have been a lot of changes. One of those changes in 1972 closed a pedestrian tunnel under the highway that was an original feature of its construction.

Volunteers for the Walking School Bus Program at Sanford Pride Elementary School help neighborhood students reach the morning bus on time. Connecting with students one step at a time: For the second year at Sanford Pride Elementary School, volunteers for the Walking School Bus Program make their daily walk in a specific Sanford neighborhood, rain or shine, to ensure kids in the area arrive at the bus on time. Carol Lantagne, the program’s coordinator, is joined by several volunteers from the school, including school counselors, health teachers and even the principals. The volunteers meet in the CVS parking lot on Main Street at 7:35 am to begin their walk along Charles Street and State Street Court, gathering students from their homes along the way. They end at the intersection of Main and State streets, where the school bus picks them up at approximately 8 am. The school has realized several benefits from the program, including improved attendance and a greater connection with students and families. FMI on the program, go here.

Sanford/Springvale leads the top 10 cities/towns receiving payroll distributions from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (calendar year 2022) Shipyard impact: The Seacoast Shipyard Association has published the 2022 Report on the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY) and its economic impact on the economy of southern Maine. As in past years, Sanford/Springvale residents make up the largest slice of the payroll pie at $40.8 million and sends the largest number of employees from Maine with 513. PNSY impacted the regional economy by $1.45 billion in 2022. In addition to payroll, Sanford/Springvale companies and local independent contractors have also benefitted by doing business with the Shipyard.
SHS Sports Fourth Week Results – 2023
The SHS football team (3-0-1) remained undefeated and in first place in the Class A South Division as they rolled to a 42-6 win over Marshwood on Friday, September 22. Sanford got contributions from several different athletes. Rhylen Avery rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown while Carter Mills ran for two touchdowns. Makai Bougie had two interceptions. Jordan Bissonnette and Cameron Suhy each added scores for the Spartans.
