There was a time when people left home and went to a brick-and-mortar store to purchase their favorite tunes.
That time is still here in Montgomery, thanks to the local independent music shop Village Green Records, 2960 Zelda Road.
“I’ve always loved music, and I love sharing it with other people,” said owner Travis Harvey.
Starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Village Green will join the nationwide and international celebration Record Store Day. They’ll have hundreds of exclusive items available, plus sales of 20% off used music and 10% off most new pieces.
Harvey said the shop maintains a half-and-half balance of old and new music, with many genres to pick from organized in a way that’s easy to browse.
“Our store is pretty new in Montgomery, so there’s a lot of product that we have yet to bring in,” Harvey said.
While vinyl records are plentiful at Village Green, they’ve got the other popular formats from back in the day — cassettes, CDs and DVDs.
“When people invest in their music collection and are excited to buy a record, their overall exposure to music grows,” Harvey said. “Their taste kind of grows, too.”
This will be Village Green’s first Record Store Day in Montgomery, though Harvey’s been celebrating it every year in other venues since the holiday was founded in 2007.
