Judge rules in favor of Lynchburg in gender discrimination lawsuit by former firefighter
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — A judge has ruled in favor of the City of Lynchburg after a former firefighter claimed she was demoted and discriminated against based on her gender. Mary Shumate, a former firefighter for the City of Lynchburg, reported discriminatory treatment and a hostile work environment based on her gender, as well as retaliation for reporting gender discrimination. Shumate's complaint described discriminatory treatment from her superiors and a retaliatory investigation that led to her demotion.
