Traffic Accident in Virginia Highlights Economic and Ecological Concerns
On December 4th, 2023, a tractor-trailer accident on US-29 in Amherst County, Virginia caused significant traffic delays and an unexpected ecological disturbance. The northbound lanes were shut down following the incident near Kintyre Lane when driver Michael W. Kimble lost control of his vehicle, which was laden with turkeys, and it overturned. While Kimble suffered minor injuries and was treated at Lynchburg General Hospital, the accident also resulted in several turkeys escaping into the surrounding woods, prompting a response from local authorities to recover the birds.
Meet a Colleague: Brian Murchison
Brian Murchison has been on the law faculty since 1982 and is the Charles S. Rowe Professor of Law. He teaches Torts, Mass Media Law, and Administrative Law. He has been the Director of the Frances Lewis Law Center and the Roger Mudd Center for Ethics. He also was co-founder of the Black Lung Clinic, which represents coal miners in federal workers’ compensation claims. Murchison’s undergraduate and law degrees are from Yale, and he practiced law in Washington, D.C. He and his wife Ann met while both were in the Peace Corps for two years after college. They have three grown children and four grandchildren.
