Division I track and field: Liberty Center girls claim regional championship
FOSTORIA — The Liberty Center girls just beat out the girls from Coldwater, edging the Cavaliers 59-58 for the team title at the Division III regional track and field competition that wrapped up on Friday night at Fostoria’s Memorial Stadium. En route to the win, the LC girls had a total of four girls punch tickets to the upcoming state meet in Dayton next week. After Coldwater, Margaretta (51) finished third in the team standings, Woodmore (50.5) was fourth, and Riverdale (47) fifth. Tinora took home the boys regional title with 63 points. Margaretta came in second at 52 points, Wayne Trace (44) finished third, Edgerton (43.5) fourth, and Ottawa Hills (36) fifth. The top four competitors in each event advance to the state meet.

Jackson Center names interim police chief
JACKSON CENTER — Chuck Wirick submitted his formal resignation as police chief of Jackson Center, and it was accepted at a special meeting that took place on Thursday. The reason behind the letter states that he accepted a job offer in an undisclosed police department. It will take full effect on May 29 at 4 p.m., however effective on May 23 he is demoted to police officer until such date.

The 27th annual commencement of the Sidney High School was held in the Odd Fellows hall last evening. Presentation of diplomas was made by Carl N. Sharp, principal, to 16 graduates: Lawrence B. Anderson, Harry Rebstock, Lena Herzstam, Elizabeth Ley, Jessilyn Rice, Ora Nutt, Bessie S. Noland, Arthur Silver, Ralph W. Graham, Cora Smith, Frances M. Waucop, Ida Jones, Paul Patton, Harley Hodge, Edna Anderson and Victor Dill. After commencement, members of the graduating class, teachers in the high school and board of education were given a reception by the Junior class at the home of Judge Harrison Wilson on North Walnut avenue.
