MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — Kids were getting creative on Wednesday in the Magic City.

Over at the Discovery Center, kids were treated to their own rendition of the popular TV series “Chopped,” but instead of food, it was with an artsy twist.

One requirement is that they had to use everything in their bag and they could even go to the art pantry for more tools and supplies.

Organizers say they came up with some very innovative creations.

“I did the nasty patty from SpongeBob SquarePants,” said Emily Slocum, a student.

“So for round one, which was food, I did this one right here, which was noodles and chocolate,” said a student, Victoria Slocum.

Each round had its own theme like food, animals, or anything they had around them.

In each round, contestants had 30 minutes to finish their masterpiece and clean up.

In the first two rounds, they had the choice to either work with someone or on their own, but during the final round, they had to work on their own.

Then the judges came in after each round deciding their favorites when it came to the most creative, most realistic, and best overall.

“I hope they took away that they are a lot more creative than they think they are because I was walking around the room and I was seeing things I would have never even thought of. Like kids have such a wild imagination and I hope they were able to have fun with being able to show their creative and imaginative side,” said Tessia Samuelson, an educator at the Magic City Discovery Center.

Winners got a free shirt, but every student got a free swag bag.

Leaders at the Magic City Discovery Center say they plan to bring this to schools in the Minot area as part of their outreach program.
