Remembering The Fallen: 2024 Law Enforcement Memorial honors those that were killed or injured on duty

A day of remembrance to honor those who have fallen and been injured in the line of duty in Hennepin County.

The 2024 Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony had numerous somber moments.

"Today as we remember their names, help us to remember their heroism," said Pastor Dave Larson Lord.

"When the bells will toll shortly for each individual member who's given their life in the service of the people of this county, let us remember the fallen," said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara.

"On this solemn occasion, to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice," Hennepin County Sheriff Dewanna Witt said. "We appreciate your support and stay safe."

"Lisa Kern Minneapolis Police Department, end of Watch, July 11th, 2004," as they remembered a fallen officer.

They gathered just outside of Minneapolis City Hall Friday afternoon.

"Every single day, law enforcement officers make an active and intentional choice to run toward danger, to help people during some of their worst moments in life and to do incredibly hard and difficult work that most of the rest of us could not imagine," says Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

This ceremony is an annual event part of National Law Enforcement Week and recognizes and remembers officers who were killed in the line of duty in Hennepin County. In total, the names of 63 fallen officers were honored with a bell toll.
