Walmart to close another location after six shutterings, laying off over 100 employees

WALMART is due to close yet another store next month, its seventh shuttering of 2024.

The nation's biggest grocery chain is laying off 105 workers as a result.

The Walmart Neighborhood Market store in the Fair Park neighborhood of Milwaukee, Wisconsin has been slated for closure.

Customers will have until May 17 to shop.

Walmart informed the state Department of Workforce Development, Mayor Cavalier Johnson, and Milwaukee County Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson of the closure via letter on Friday, April 19.

A total of 105 employees are losing their jobs as a result.

Shoppers, however, won't have to travel too far to the nearest Walmart once it closes.

Just over three miles away in West Milwaukee, there is a Walmart SuperCenter.

The city of Milwaukee has 11 other Walmart stores of various sizes.

Workers laid off from the Fair Parks store have been told to apply for open positions at other Walmart and Sam's Club locations.

The shuttering in Wisconsin is just the latest Walmart closure of 2024.

Already, six other locations have shuttered nationwide.

The first two Walmarts to close this year were in San Diego county.

The location at Imperial Ave. in San Diego and Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon both shut down for good on February 9.

Walmart said the stores had not met financial expectations.

However, locals on social media suggested crime and shoplifting had affected these locations.

The following week, Walmart closed its store in Columbus, Ohio on February 16.

California was then struck by another closure in West Covina on March 29.

Over on the east coast, Walmart closed its store in Towson, Maryland, located just outside Baltimore, on April 5.

And the latest Walmart to close was situated in Granite Bay, California where the Neighborhood Market shuttered April 12.
