Clinton honors police department for 135 years of service
On Saturday, the town of Clinton honored its police department with a reception to observe the department’s 135th anniversary. The event took place at the Clinton County Historical Society, where officers and other visitors had a chance to appreciate the history of the department and honor two officers killed in the line of duty. Former officer Les Shields gave a presentation in honor of those fallen officers.
Clinton intersection closes for reconstruction project
There’s a traffic alert for part of Clinton. Because of storm sewer installation as a part of the Clinton’s 13th St. reconstruction project, the intersection of N. 13th St. and 4th Ave. N. will be closed temporarily. The work is scheduled to take ten days. During the work, the road will be reduced to one lane with periods of intermitted closures.
Union pushes for worker protection at Thomson Prison
Thomson Federal Prison remains on lockdown more than three weeks after the facility reported guns and cell phones getting inside the prison. Union leaders continue to lobby for changes that protect for workers who are sexually assaulted and harassed by inmates. A state law in Illinois prompted an inmate to plead guilty to exposing himself to a woman who’s a corrections officer. Inmate Fred Smith was sentenced to an additional 364 days in prison, the most allowed under the Illinois law.

CLINTON, Iowa (KWQC) - A traffic alert for Clinton drivers. Some local residents gathered this week at the East Preston Recreation Centre to mark a special birthday. Liza Brooks turned 105 on Wednesday. She was born on May 15, 1919. Feleshia Chandler reports.
Good deed pays off for Maquoketa Valley student nearly a decade later
HOPKINTON, Iowa (KCRG) - A student in the Maquoketa Valley Community School District is seeing big returns on an investment she made almost a decade ago. In 2015, then 9-year-old Kaitlyn Nolan found two dollars on the playground and donated it to Dollars for Scholars. The nonprofit works to give scholarship money to every student in the district who wants to go to college.
Scales Mound, Ill., resident arrested after standoff in Jo Daviess County
A 28-year-old Scales Mound, Ill., resident was taken into custody Saturday after a standoff with law enforcement, a news release says. Shortly after 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jo Daviess County Deputies learned that Jesse J. Jones, a wanted felon, was at an address on West Blackjack Road in rural Hanover, Ill., the release says.
