Al Lewis announces his retirement from KVNU after 52 year career
LOGAN - Hall of Fame Broadcaster Al Lewis announced his retirement from KVNU Monday morning on the air. He is hanging up the microphone after over five decades of welcoming Cache Valley to each day. His friendly voice is the first thing many Northern Utah residents hear on their way to work or school in the morning. He also is the trusted voice of Aggie sports. Aggie fans have listened to him on game day for decades.
Prep softball: Grizzlies moving on in state playoffs
It was a very successful two days for the Logan softball team. The 14th-seeded Grizzlies completed a sweep of 19th-seeded Dixie in a regional series in the 4A state softball playoffs Saturday. Logan beat the Flyers in Game 2, 10-3, and will now move on to the Super Regionals next week.
Prep softball: Bobcats advance with sweep of Wolves in state playoffs
SMITHFIELD – Avoiding a Game 3 and building some momentum for next week were the top priorities for the Bobcats going into Saturday. Sky View was able to check off both of those goals in Game 2 of a regional series in the 4A state softball playoffs. The Bobcats improved in the field from Game 1 and continued to get timely hits in a 12-1 five-inning victory over Region 11 foe Green Canyon to win the best-of-three series.
Prep softball: Mustangs sweep Huskies on road, advance
There was no late-game rally needed by the Mustangs in Game 2 of a regional series in the 4A state softball playoffs Saturday at Midvale. Mountain Crest was off and galloping from the start against 15th-seeded Hillcrest. In Game 1 on Friday, the 18th-seeded Mustangs used a two-run homer in the top of the seventh in a thrilling 3-2 victory. In Game 2, the visitors scored the first 10 runs of the contest and rolled to a 14-4 victory.
Prep baseball: Stangs roll past Buffaloes and into super regionals
HYRUM — If the Mustangs were looking past Tooele in anticipation of another showdown with Region 11 rival Bear River, it certainly didn’t show. That’s because Mountain Crest was dialed in, in every facet of the game in its 12-0 five-inning victory over Tooele in Game 2 of their regional series in the 4A state baseball playoffs on a pleasant and sunny Saturday afternoon at The Yard. The Mustangs didn’t need the if-necessary contest in their three-game series, inasmuch as they defeated the Buffaloes, 8-0 in Friday’s opener.
High school baseball: 4A/2A playoff roundup from Saturday’s games
Cottonwood 9, Hurricane 8 No. 17 seed Hurricane started hot, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first two innings, but No. 16 seed Cottonwood stormed back to complete the 2-0 sweep and advance to the 4A Super Regionals against top seeded Dixie. Austin Carver struck out ten batters for the Colts, and added an RBI. Ladanian Gutierrez drove in four runs, including a homer. Mountain Crest 12, Tooele 0 No. 12 seed Mountain Crest shut out No. 20 seed Tooele to sweep the first round series. It relied heavily on the trio of JC Jones, Maxwell Hornsby, and Zyan Foulger, who each drove in multiple runs. Kayden Cullimore kept the Tooele offense at bay, as he pitched a complete game and allowed just 3 hits.
