NaJ Watson named Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Performer of the Year, five eagles named All-Conference
Several Eagles racked up Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field postseason awards, the league announced on Friday. NaJ Watson was named Outdoor Performer of the Year, high point scorer and to the All-Sun Belt First Team, while four Eagles - Lauren Euler, Sofia Molina, Imani Moore and Alanna Smith - were named to the Third Team. Watson, who was named to the All-Sun Belt Outdoor Second Team, earned Performer of the Year outright after her performance at the SBC Outdoor Championships, where she carded a score of 19.5 to lead the field. She claimed the 200m crown at the SBC Championships, heading to regionals for the second straight year in the event. She broke the 100m (11.41) and 200m (23.19) program records during the championships, winning the preliminary heat in the 100m. Euler, Molina, Smith and Moore earned third team honors for their performances in the 4x400m relay throughout the year, setting the top two times in program history during the Florida Relays in March. Moore finished in third place in the long jump at the championships, as her 12.60m jump placed her second in school history, while Alanna Smith placed fourth in the 400m. Watson, Moore and Smith will compete at the NCAA Preliminary Round in Lexington next weekend.

Register Pecan Festival postponed due to weather
The second-annual Register Pecan Festival has been postponed due to inclement weather. Thunder, lightning and rain determined the final decision for Breanne Perry, one of the organizers of the event, citing safety as paramount. Organizers, vendors, and residents were hopeful for Saturday's outlook, and initially set up to prepare for the day, but Mother Nature had different plans. A Friday post on the event's Facebook page stated, "We do not want to risk any damage to property or injuries to our people! SAFETY FIRST!" The committee has rescheduled the festival for June 8th. They will post this soon on the Facebook page. In 2023, the Register Pecan Festival made its debut to the delight of all involved. According to a Grice Connect article from May of last year, the festival boasted food, music, and fun activities for families. Bulloch County Public Works to host Touch A Truck on Monday
The Bulloch County Public Works Division will host a Public Safety Partners Touch a Truck event on Monday, May 20, 2024, from 3-7pm at the Bulloch County Ag Arena, located at 44 Arena Blvd. (off Langston Chapel Rd.) in Statesboro. This FREE community event will feature vehicles from the sheriff's department, police department, Georgia State Patrol, public works, EMS, AirEvac, animal services, and more. Food trucks will also be on site for food and beverage purchases. The goal for the event is to provide an opportunity for the entire Bulloch County Public Works Division to show the community the different services they offer. In addition, the event allows the public to ask questions and gain more insight into how each public safety partner agency handles its responsibilities. GARFIELD, Ga. - Investigators remain unsure why a woman was driving in the wrong lane in a head-on crash of two vehicles that killed four people in southeastern Georgia. Georgia state troopers said Tuesday that the people who died in the crash were Shyneice Sanders, 30, of San Antonio, Texas and her three-year-old daughter Zoeigh Wright, as well as Jacquelyn Johnson and William Johnson, a married couple, both 61, who lived in Statesboro.
