Maryland transportation plan highlights major Shore projects, funding

Maryland transportation officials outlined a proposed $21.9 billion six-year capital spending plan during a stop in Worcester, Somerset and Wicomico counties, highlighting local road, transit, aviation and bicycle projects tied to the state's transportation priorities. State transportation leaders met with local officials to discuss the Draft Consolidated Transportation Program for fiscal years 2027 through 2032, according to a community announcement. The proposal includes funding intended to improve safety, maintain transportation infrastructure and support economic development across Maryland. “Visiting each county in Maryland and Baltimore City to discuss the state’s transportation system with residents and elected officials is an invaluable part of the budgetary process,” Maryland Transportation Secretary Katie Thomson said in the announcement. “I’m grateful to our local leaders for their vision and partnership in creating a safer and stronger transportation system for everyone.” The proposal builds on the Moore-Miller administration's "Serious About Safety" initiative, according to the announcement. Transportation officials said in the announcement that the plan also addresses maintenance needs and supports projects aimed at strengthening economic activity statewide. Officials from the State Highway Administration, Maryland Transit Administration, Motor Vehicle Administration, Maryland Aviation Administration and Maryland Transportation Authority participated in the meetings.
