Democrat Amy Huffman Oliver unseats Hall in House District 62
Democrat Amy Huffman Oliver has won the Indiana House District 62 race , ousting incumbent Republican Dave Hall by winning nearly 60% of the vote. “I’m just grateful to the voters,” Huffman Oliver said late Tuesday. While Hall garnered slightly more votes in Jackson County and Huffman Oliver’s home turf of Brown County, the margins there — a combined 1,254 votes — were more than offset by Huffman Oliver's 6,201-vote margin in Monroe County in Monroe County, where she won 12,704 votes to Hall’s 6,503. Huffman Oliver said she benefited from high turnout and enthusiasm among Democratic Party voters, a good team and hard work, saying she had campaigned full-time for about 16 months. District 62 includes all of Brown County and portions of Monroe and Jackson counties. Huffman Oliver, 59, of Nashville, is an attorney and graduate of Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law. She and her husband, Jim, a former Brown County prosecutor, have two sons. Hall, 44, of Norman, in Jackson County, is an insurance agent who narrowly won the seat in the previous two elections, defeating former Monroe County Commissioner Penny Githens in 2022 and Bloomington pastor Thomas Horrocks in 2024.
