Over the last few weeks, it may be hard to find a defensive lineman whose stock has risen quicker than the newly minted four-star Rolesville (N.C.) EDGE rusher Zavion Griffin-Haynes , who recently earned an offer from the Miami Hurricanes.

For several months the Canes staff had shown interest in the top-150 defender and pulled the trigger last week after an in-school visit from Miami senior analyst Edwin Pata .

“Miami is a hometown school for me because I’m actually from Florida, so it was great to have them offer me,” Griffin-Haynes told CaneSport. “They came to watch me work out and go through practice, and they really liked me and think I fit their scheme very well. I love Miami after getting this offer.”

The Jacksonville native, who now resides in North Carolina, had great things to say about Miami when asked about the program.

“I think they’re doing pretty great with their defense overall,” Griffin-Haynes said. “They’re a very young team, and I think they can build something special.”

The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder also shared his thoughts on Miami defensive line coach and NFL Hall of Famer Jason Taylor .

“He played kind of just like me in high school and then transferred to defensive end,” Griffin-Haynes said. “I think he can teach me a lot, and with the guys he’s developing in Miami, I think he can do the same for me.”

Griffin-Haynes, who is the No. 128 ranked prospect in the 2026 class according to the On3 Industry Rankings, holds offers from Miami, NC State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, UCLA, Auburn, and others.

“It’s something that I wasn’t expecting, but I’m going to keep working,” Griffin-Haynes said. “I really look at the relationship coaches have with the players and the relationship they have as well. Also academics and having fun.”

In the coming months Griffin-Haynes hopes to visit Miami, which is one of his top schools early on.

“That’s something I plan on doing,” Griffin-Haynes said. “I want to see how they developed players out of high school. How they’ve put on weight and just developed.”

    CaneSport’s take

Griffin-Haynes is a prospect Miami identified earlier in the recruiting process, and it looks as if the program’s evaluation of the EDGE rusher was spot on. On3 ranks Griffin-Haynes higher than any other recruiting service as the No. 78 overall prospect in the 2026 class.
