Miami four-star 2025 quarterback commit Luke Nickel didn’t only attend the Hurricanes’ spring game last weekend to get a feel for Miami’s progress after a month of spring practices and workouts — he also wanted to take advantage of an opportunity for face time with some of Miami’s top recruiting priorities and prospects he’s hoping to add to the 2025 class.

The No. 152 overall prospect in the On300 and No. 15 quarterback hadn’t previously been able to visit Miami’s campus during March or April, telling CaneSport before his trip to Coral Gables he knew he was looking forward to making his own recruiting pitch to some of the Hurricanes’ top targets visiting for the spring game. Nickel was able to chat with No. 10 running back Byron Louis and No. 1 interior offensive lineman Solomon Thomas face-to-face last Saturday as he fights to add blue-chip prospects to Miami’s top-15 recruiting class.

“I think Byron Louis, I talked to him a good bit, he’s a good player and he definitely likes it (in Miami),” Nickel said. “We made a good impression on him. Solomon Thomas, he’s a really good player as well. I would love to flip him from FSU, and I think it’s starting to lean that way in that we’re going to and we’re going to be in that all the way to the end. Then Brock (Schott), I was talking and texting with him the whole time before he committed. …Was just kind of pitching to them that this is the place for them.”

Nickel said Louis and Thomas, two of the top Miami targets in attendance at the Spring Game, both talked about how much they liked it at Miami and how highly they thought of the Hurricanes. Nickel said he could tell by their responses how much they liked it, adding he’s “super excited” about the 2025 recruiting class and believes it’ll only continue to improve as time passes.

“Just spending time with the coaching staff and the recruits that we had there, it was just a very cool time, and I’m looking forward to getting back and just keep forming my relationships with the coaching staff and recruits,” Nickel said.

Nickel will return to campus for his official visit June 21.

CaneSport’s Take

Miami has continued to take advantage of its self-generated recruiting momentum by landing three four-star recruits in three weeks between running back Girard Pringle and tight ends Luka Gilbert and Brock Schott . Nickel is still hell bent on adding more talent before it’s all said and done. Nickel and Schott have also discussed rooming together at Miami. Nickel said he and Schott have developed a good relationship.
