We start with Marcus Blaze. Arguably the top uncommitted Class of 2025 high school wrestler, the Perrysburg, Ohio native tells FLO Wrestling that he is closing in on a decision. And, he knows the six schools he will pick from. In an interview with the outlet following his third place finish in the 57 kilogram weight class at the 2024 Olympic Trials in State College, Blaze said he is down to Penn State, Michigan, Cornell, Michigan, Ohio State, Purdue and Iowa.
“You can probably expect a commitment here soon,” he told FLO.
According to FLO, Blaze is the country’s No. 5 pound-for-pound high school folkstyle wrestler. The outlet also calls him the nation’s No. 2 wrestler at 132 pounds. He is a three-time Ohio state champ. Penn State already has Class of 2025 commitments from Pennsylvania natives Nate Desmond, Dalton Perry, and Asher Cunningham, in addition to pledges from New York’s PJ Duke and New Jersey’s William Henckel. Now, it hopes to add Blaze to the list.
In other wrestler news, two-time NCAA champ and Penn State great Vincenzo Joseph is retiring from competitive wrestling. He will now move into coaching after competing one final time at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials earlier this month, where he did not qualify for the team.
