The Metcalfe County Fiscal Court met on Tuesday, May 23rd with all in attendance. Cathy Nunn addressed the court as a citizen of Metcalfe County speaking for others who do not want a stage built in the historic courthouse yard. She stated, “We don’t feel like the building is necessary.” Explaining that several people have voiced concerns about the stage taking away from the beautiful courtyard and the fear that trees might be removal. She suggested that a town hall meeting be held to hear opinions from the people before making a decision.

Ribbon Cuttings in Summer Shade
The Edmonton-Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for business neighbors, G4 Salvage and More and Know Your Roots Salon in downtown Summer Shade, KY. A large crowd was in attendance for the Founder’s Day celebration and for the ribbon cutting of two new businesses that opened their doors in the heart of Summer Shade. Jacob and Hannah Glidewell and Johnna Pennington welcomed the crowd and gave them a chance to check out their shops while preparations were put in place for the ribbon cutting. Hannah Glidewell cut the ribbon for G4 Salvage & More and Johnna Pennington’s children did the honors for Know Your Roots Salon.

MCMS has new guidance counselor
Metcalfe County Middle School welcomes a new guidance counselor for the 2023-2024 school year. Candi Murphy begins her new duties in July. Murphy was born and raised in Columbia where she attended Adair County High School. She graduated from Lindsey Wilson College with honors in 2000. She then completed a master’s in school counseling from Western Kentucky University.
Farmers Market Funds
The Metcalfe County Fiscal Court met on Tuesday, May 9th with everyone in attendance. The first order of business was annual supply bids. The bid envelopes were opened and read to those in attendance by Judge/Executive Larry Wilson. There were 3 bids received for crushed stone and gravel, and only one bid was received for each asphalt, road oil, chip seal, and rock hauling. The magistrates will take time to look at each and a decision will be announced at the next meeting on May 23rd.
