National Cherry Festival announces closing night act for 2024 season
TRAVERSE CITY — The National Cherry Festival announced their final music acts for the 98th National Cherry Festival. The Accidentals and Joshua Davis will perform on Saturday, July 6 on the Pepsi Bayside Music Stage, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. “Bringing our hometown favorites to the stage, we couldn’t think of a better way to close out the 98th National Cherry Festival!” said Executive Director, Kat Paye. The Accidentals (Sav Buist and Katie Larson) started playing music professionally when they were 15 and 16 years old after meeting in their public high school orchestra program in Traverse City. They have worked professionally in the music industry since they were teens, launching their first album in 2012, just months before they transferred to Interlochen Arts Academy and participated in the first-ever Singer Songwriter program as Junior/Seniors.

Local families got the keys to their new house thanks to Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit striving to build stability and self-reliance with families in need. They help families find affordable mortgages and help them build their new home. It was a happy day Wednesday for a family in Manton, as they toured their new place after all the hard work. “A single adult family needs 300 hours of sweat equity. That is actually time that they spend at the build site. Time to work on the house. They have classes. They have homebuyer education. They have financial management,” said Amy Gibbs of the Cadillac Area Habitat for Humanity.

Downstate man sentenced in Menominee County on cocaine charge
MENOMINEE, MI— A Traverse City man has been sentenced in Menominee County on a cocaine charge. Raymond MacLeod, 39, was given 18 months to 4 years in prison. Last October, Michigan State Police conducted a traffic stop on US-41 near Snow Road in Nadeau Township. During the investigation, a K-9 was deployed. The dog alerted troopers to 8 grams of cocaine in the passenger compartment.

At Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, their Comprehensive Stroke Center is the only one of its kind in Michigan. “Somewhat of a unique situation, but it happens where we got two strokes at the same time,” said Interventional Neurologist and Munson Healthcare Comprehensive Stroke Program Medical Director David Rosenbaum-HaLevi, M.D. Two stroke patients rushed to Munson Medical Center back in April 2024. This might have caused an issue for some, but not for Munson’s state of the art Comprehensive Stroke Center. “Strokes are permanent, devastating injuries,” said Dr. Rosenbaum-HaLevi, “so they take top priority. So we cleared the other room, which is normally used for other procedures, and we took turns.”

Manistee man arrested for making violent threats on Facebook, deputies say
WEXFORD COUNTY — In early April, a woman contacted the Michigan State Police Cadillac Post to report a family member was making violent threats against her on Facebook, troopers said. The suspect was identified as 60-year-old Timothy Alan Decker from Manistee, troopers said. The victim filed a personal protection order shortly after the postings were made, and a report was submitted to the Wexford County Prosecutor’s Office. An arrest warrant was authorized for Decker on May 8, 2024, troopers said. Decker was arrested at his residence in Manistee on May 11 and sent to the Wexford County Jail, troopers said.
