GT Regional Land Conservancy Acquires $5.1M Property in East Bay Township
Property recently targeted for a large-scale housing complex in East Bay Township has been purchased for $5.1 million by the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy (GTRLC), protecting 210 acres between Four and Five Mile roads from development. GTRLC now has three years to repay a loan it secured for the time-sensitive purchase and will be evaluating recreation and conservation opportunities on the ecologically important site, referred to as The Ridge.

Two arrested for drug possession after report of unconscious people in car
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Two people were arrested Sunday morning after Traverse City police were alerted of multiple people that looked to be unconscious in a car. Sergeant Reed Shea with the Traverse City Police Department said officers were called to the 600 block of Cottageview Drive for reports of three people unconscious in a car.
1 person killed in house fire in Grand Traverse Co.
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — On March 24 at 2:34 p.m., Blair Township Emergency Services was sent to a house fire in the 4700 block of Old M-37. Upon the first unit’s arrival, officials reported that the single-family dwelling was approximately 40 percent engulfed, with fire coming out the windows. Crews entered the house to search for the homeowner and to extinguish the fire, officials said. During the search, crews located the male occupant and got him out of the house, officials said. EMS crews attended to the man and took him to Munson Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes.

Jersey Mike’s donates all March 27 proceeds to Father Fred Foundation
The Traverse City sub shop is donating all proceeds on Wednesday to The Father Fred Foundation. The foundation, established in 1989, helps individuals and families with essential and immediate needs, nourishing food on the table, keeping heat and lights on, and clothing when the necessities of home are unaffordable. Jersey Mike’s owner waws adamant about supporting the local non-profit. “Nationwide they raised about $21 million,” said Candice Hamel, Father Fred executive director. “The owner of this store actually had to get special permission to kind of go off grid for a different nonprofit. So we were accepted last year and they did it again.”

Athletic Director Micah Gallegos said the school and students keeps the passion for his career alive. The Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association named Gallegos of Traverse City Christian School athletic director of the year. Gallegos served as athletic director at Traverse City Christian for the past seven years. He said he feels honored to receive the recognition. “It’s just an incredible honor to be recognized for that. And I absolutely love it here. I love our students.
