Isolated Severe Storms Threaten Phoenix, Tucson and Central Arizona and the Middle Texas Coast Near Victoria and Port Lavaca as Thunderstorms Spread From the Southwest to the Plains
PHOENIX, ARIZONA — Isolated severe thunderstorms are a concern in two very different parts of the country: central and southern Arizona and the middle coast of Texas. The Storm Prediction Center placed both areas under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather, covering a zone from the Phoenix area south through Tucson to the Mexico border, and a smaller area along the Texas coast near Victoria, Port Lavaca and Matagorda Bay. General thunderstorms are also spreading across a wide part of the country, from the Desert Southwest and Rockies to the central Plains, the Gulf Coast and South Florida. The storms are arriving as an atmospheric river pushes near-record moisture into the Southwest, keeping flash flooding a major concern.
