MELROSE PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A local cheese producer took home the gold medal in a world cheese competition for one of its premiere Italian cheeses.
Caputo Cheese in Melrose Park took home first place at the World Championship Cheese Contest in Wisconsin for its "nodini" cheese, in the Fresh Mozzarella category, "which means 'little knot' in Italian, so this product is fresh mozzarella that's been tied in in a notch shape," said Renzo Berardi, Sales Manager at Caputo.
Berardi said it's the homemade crafting of Caputo's nodini that made it stand out.

We bring the tradition of handmade products."
Berardi said the nodini cheese has a "chewy bite just in the unique notch shape that you typically don't see in it with this product."
"This product is delicate and texture rich and creamy and flavor," he added.

"I think it's just awards of the hard work that our our team our cheesemakers and everything we put in year to year to make sure that the quality standards are above and beyond as most importantly, our our commitment to provide quality cheese to the market."
