Rotary slates Tonka Brew Fest at Gale Woods Farm

The Mound-Westonka Rotary Club will host the 13th annual Tonka Brew Fest from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Gale Woods Farm, 7210 County Road 110 W. in Minnetrista. The festival features only Minnesota craft beer and draws more than 500 guests from across the Lake Minnetonka area each year. Ticket sales support projects in the Westonka community and beyond. Guests can enjoy unlimited samples from more than 15 Minnesota craft breweries, a commemorative tasting glass, slow-smoked barbecue and live music from The Selmer Effect. Past festivals have featured Excelsior Brewing Company, Luce Line Brewing, Waconia Brewing, Lupulin Brewing, Steel Toe Brewing and Utepils. “Tonka Brew Fest is our community’s chance to raise a glass for a good cause,” said Kirk Lau, president of the Mound-Westonka Rotary Club. “Every dollar we raise stays at work, from scholarships for Westonka students to the food shelf to clean water projects around the world. We’re a small club, but with this crowd behind us, we make a big impact.” Since 2013, Tonka Brew Fest has raised more than $120,000 for community and humanitarian projects. VOCE choir slates 'Dreamweaver' performances

VOCE Community Choir will present its fall program, “Dreamweaver,” at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Mound at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. The program includes “Stars” and “Only in Sleep” by Eriks Esenvelds and Ola Gjeilo’s “Dreamweaver,” an extended work for chorus, piano, strings and soprano soloist. Gjeilo’s “Dreamweaver” is a setting of the medieval Norwegian folk poem “Draumkvedet.” The poem follows a man who falls asleep on Christmas Eve and journeys through darkness and trial toward redemption. The score uses sweeping harmonies, rhythmic repetition and layered textures to evoke the dream narrative, which closes with hope and resolution. Tickets cost $10 in advance and can be purchased using the links below. Tickets will also be available for $15 at the door. “Come, let the music move you, and leave with your spirit renewed,” said director Kelly Newell. “We look forward to singing for you and sharing a beautiful weekend of music and community.”
