SHEAR MAGIC: Owners of American Falls’ Sam’s Family Cuts opens child-centered hair salon in Pocatello
POCATELLO — A couple who own the beloved Sam’s Family Cuts in American Falls are expanding their hair salon services to Pocatello with the opening of their second location and business, Smiles & Styles Kids Cuts. The new salon, which officially opened early last month at 1023 Yellowstone Ave., Suite N, promises a family-oriented experience where members of the whole family can swing by to get a stylish trim in one place. Sam Hanini, who owns the two salons with his wife, Jeri Campbell-Hanini, explained that the Pocatello expansion offers haircuts to both adults and children, although they are especially equipped to provide a good hair-trimming experience to youth. “Smiles & Styles Kids Cuts has been such a special journey for me,” Hanini said. “I truly love creating a place where kids can feel comfortable, have fun, and actually look forward to getting their haircuts. I know that a haircut can sometimes feel like a big experience for a little one, so my goal is always to make each child feel safe, happy, and celebrated.” With cartoons flickering on nearby televisions, race car, jeep and fire truck seats for young kids, and gifts and treats handed out at the end

The disaster made national news and impacted communities from Rexburg t...

Theater review: Complicated characters in Westside’s ‘Camping’
Norm Schroder, who’s been seen on the West Side stage several times in the last few years, takes the director’s seat for West Side Players’ fall production, “Camping with Harry and Tom.” The script, set in 1921, sees then-President Warren G. Harding taking a camping trip with two of the most powerful industrialists of the 20th Century: Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. It’s a case of truth being stranger than fiction; Mark St. Germain’s award-winning off-Broadway play is based on a real camping trip that these famous men actually took together. St. Germain’s play is an unflinching look at these titans of American history. The point of the play, however, is that they aren’t titans at all — they are men. Brilliant men, powerful men, but men — and the script looks their humanity full in the face, with all of their charisma, but also, and crucially, with all of their weaknesses, foibles, and prejudices.
