Reel Theatre to show John Wayne’s ‘True Grit’ on Saturday
POCATELLO — The Reel Theatre will show the 1969 Western “True Grit” at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, with more classic-film screenings possible if turnout is strong. The screening is meant to give moviegoers a chance to see an old favorite on a theater screen with surround sound and an audience. If enough people come and enjoy it, the theater may add more vintage titles, including other Westerns, Alfred Hitchcock thrillers and holiday classics. Tickets are $3. Organizer Kirby Jonas said people who want a seat should arrive early, because he has heard from many interested viewers across East Idaho, including Idaho Falls. Jonas said a home copy of the movie is cheap and easy to find, but it does not compare with watching on a big screen with other fans. The idea for a local classic-movie screening came from a trip to Mackay shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic. An old theater there was showing “American Graffiti” as part of a classic-film program, and Jonas and his wife drove up to see it. Ever since, Jonas said he has wanted to bring something similar to the Reel, located at 310 E. Oak St. Jonas is friends with theater owners Saundra and Clesie
