Miners use 26-0 run to rally past Lincoln County for first win
HAMLIN — Mingo Central and Lincoln County faced off on Friday night inside the Panther Pavilion in Hamlin and both teams were in search of their first win of the new season. It was the visiting Miners that notched the first 'W' in that win column as they used a 26-0 third quarter run to storm back and top the Panthers by a final score of 65-58.
No. 3 Mingo Central knocks off No. 2 Summers County in OT
NEWTOWN — Mingo Central picked up their first signature win of the season on Saturday evening atop Miner Mountain as the No. 3 ranked Lady Miners knocked off No. 2 ranked Summers County in overtime by a final score of 50-45. The Lady Miners trailed by two at 40-38 late in regulation and Summers County had the ball, but Bella Hall picked up a steal to give the ball back to Mingo Central.

Belfry starts 2-0 with wins over Berea and Jenkins
GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates improved to 2-0 on Saturday afternoon as they held off a late Berea rally to come away with a 62-58 win inside the BHS Gymnasium. Belfry led by as many as 19 points in the third quarter, but Berea cut the lead down to two points with 15 seconds to go in the game. Pirate freshman Zade Rash came up clutch however as he sank a pair of free-throws to ice the game away for BHS.
Mingo grapplers have good showing in opening meet at Winfield
NEWTOWN – The Mingo Central High School wrestling team has some experience back, a transfer and a pair of newcomers on the 2023-24 squad. Out of the six-man roster, three are returning wrestlers for Mingo Central this season. One of those is 175-pounder James Moore, who is in his third year on the team.
Miners' Waine, Sheppard named Second-Team All-State
The 2023 high school football season was a turnaround year for the Mingo Central Miners, led by first-year Coach David Jones. Coming off three straight losing seasons, Mingo Central bounced back this fall, posting an 8-3 record and qualified for the Class AA playoffs for the first time since 2019.
Middle school basketball roundup: Wolfpack win county opener; Lenore girls unbeaten
KERMIT – The Williamson Middle School boys' basketball team won its first game of the season with a 35-32 win at Kermit on Monday in the county opener for the Wolfpack. Corey Rogers paced Williamson with 14 points. Matt Phillips had seven, Greg Williams six and Cayden New four. Griffin Beckett and Jackson Jewell tossed in two each.
