Canyon, Randall advance to 4A Division II Regional Semifinals
Sixteen teams remain in the hunt for a berth in the Class 4A Division II State volleyball playoffs. Among the 16 teams left are a pair of Canyon ISD rivals in the Canyon Lady Eagles and the Randall Lady Raiders. Earlier this week, Canyon (33-7) eliminated Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy, 3-0 and Randall dominated Clint Mountain View, 3-0 to advance to the regional semifinals. In Canyon's area round match, Laney Jones pounded 14 kills and Neelie Henson finished with 7 to lead the offensive attack. Canyon also was able to record 7 service aces, including 4 from Klair Stone and 3 by Brylee McElroy. A great deal of Canyon's success on offense came through the precise passing and sets from McElroy's 21 assists and Masyn Porter's 12. Defensively, Canyon controlled the back row with Keagan Cantu leading the way with 7 digs and Stone finishing with 6. Henson also tallied a block on the front row. Canyon battled Lubbock Cooper Liberty for the third time this season in the regional semifinals Thursday night in Dimmitt. *** The Randall Lady Raiders (37-6) overpowered Clint Mountain View, 25-2, 25-8, 25-13 behind sophomore outside hitter Chloe Brown's double-double performance.
