Graduating seniors from Port Huron and Marysville high schools will have an easier time furthering their education due to a collaboration between the districts and St. Clair County Community College.

SC4 is working with the Port Huron and Marysville school districts to eliminate a step to the enrollment process at the college. High school seniors from these districts will be automatically admitted to SC4 without needing to complete a college application. Eliminating the application step can streamline the transition from high school to college, while encouraging early access to scholarships, advising and college services.

"SC4 recognizes, in the past, not all students continue education after high school," said SC4 President Kirk Kramer. "Another collaboration with PHASD in indicative of a community approach to encouraging access to education to provide the best possible future for each person."

Kramer further said that the college appreciates its collaboration with Marysville Public Schools to also encourage students to continue their education beyond high school. He said both institutions realize a collaborative education community is beneficial to residents and makes a positive difference in the community.

The program of automatic admission to SC4 is at no cost to the students or the school. Students are also not required to enroll.

Starting with the classes of 2024, student data from Port Huron and Marysville school districts will be entered into the SC4 data system to permit students to activate an SC4 account and immediately begin the enrollment process for the Fall 2024 semester.

"PHASD is delighted to strengthen our partnership with SC4 and confident this joint effort will effectively remove barriers; empowering first-generation college students and our families from historically marginalized communities to be able to access post-secondary education," said Theo Kerhoulas, Port Huron Area Schools Superintendent.

Marysville Public Schools Superintendent Shawn Wightman said the collaborative initiative with SC4 represents a transformative step forward in the district's commitment to educational accessibility and success for its students.

"By removing the traditional barriers to college enrollment, we are not only streamlining the transition from high school to higher education, but also empowering our students to seize educational opportunities immediately upon graduation," Wightman said. "This partnership is a testament to our shared vision of fostering a thriving community through continuous learning and development."

A letter of introduction and explanation of benefits will be sent to graduates in early May with a follow up letter on how to activate their SC4 account in the middle of May. Students interesting is enrolling at SC4 may contact enrollment@sc4.edu.
