MARTINSBURG, W.Va. ( DC News Now ) — One of the musical gems in our region is the award-winning marching band at Martinsburg High School.

Band members are taking time this weekend to invite the community to share in their success with a live jazz concert at the school.

Graduating senior and trombone player Melody Hudson said her band experience at the school has been truly rewarding.

“It’s just been amazing since I started back in middle school. A lot of personal growth,” said Hudson.

She performed with the band as part of a national showcase at Disney World this past semester.

“The pride of the kids, you could just tell that all that hard work just came to that moment and it was one of our best performances, hands down,” said band director Casie Adams.

To celebrate all that success, Martinsburg High opens its campus doors at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday for a jazz concert with servings of light fare.

“There’s going to be amazing music, there’s going to be great food, and everybody loves music and food, right? It’s going to be a great night,” said Hudson.

Josh Appiah plays alto sax when not preparing for his collegiate level neuroscience curriculum and said those coming out Saturday evening “should know once we start playing the song they hear in their head and they’ll start dancing along a little bit. That’s the basis for the songs on the list.”
