OHSAA football playoff predictions for second-round central Ohio games

A showdown with one of the best high school football teams in Ohio is Whitehall's reward for earning its first playoff win since 2018. The Rams travel to Ohio Dominican on Nov. 6 for a Division II, Region 7 quarterfinal against Watterson, which won the past two Division III state titles and takes a 39-game winning streak into the matchup. Coming off a 33-7 win over Hamilton Township on Oct. 30 , Whitehall faces its toughest opponent since it took on Massillon Washington in the second round in 2018. The Rams lost that game 35-17 after beating Dover 38-31 the week before, and Massillon went on to a Division II state runner-up finish. The Whitehall-Watterson matchup is one of 20 games on the slate this week for the The Dispatch Predictions Panel. Those 20 games happen to be all of the regional quarterfinals in which central Ohio teams are competing. The panel went 1-4 in Lone Wolf picks last week, moving to 8-34 for the season. Schools struggle for funding as more ballot items fail

School districts in Central Ohio and elsewhere across the state struggled to convince voters to approve new sources of funding in the recent election and now face difficult financial decisions. Why it matters: Districts are increasingly reliant on funding sources like property and income taxes — additional expenses that many financially strapped voters said were too much to bear this election. The latest: Of 134 statewide ballot issues tracked by the Ohio School Boards Association for the Nov. 3 ballot, just over half passed. Zoom in: Voters in a dozen Central Ohio districts faced levies or bonds, and only four were approved or are on track to pass. South-Western City Schools was the only successful issue in Franklin County — its bond issue didn't increase taxes and passed with 66% of the vote. Issues for Jefferson and Miami Trace lead by small margins, while the Delaware Area Career Center also passed.
