Elijah Vue's mother returns to court seeking a lower bond, judge denies motion

The mother of a missing three-year-old Elijah Vue was back in court Asking for lower bond.

• Katrina Baur asked for her cash bond of $15,000 to be lowered to a signature bond.
• The state and Elijah's uncle, Orson Vue opposed the motion and asked to keep the bond where it is.
• Judge Robert Dewane denied the motion even mentioning Baur's safety if released.

Katrina Baur's attorney asked the judge to reduce her 15-thousand-dollar cash bond to a signature bond. That would allow for her release with a promise to return to court.
"She will comply with any conditions as set forth by the court,” said her attorney, Ann Larson.

The Manitowoc District Attorney immediately opposed the motion.

"Especially with the seriousness of this case, I think cash is still appropriate,” Jacalyn LaBre said.

Baur has been charged with child neglect but not in the disappearance of her son, Elijah. He's been missing now for more than two months.

The boy's uncle, Orson Vue, also addressed the judge on bond.

"Until we find out where Elijah is or what happened to Elijah, her whereabouts and availability needs to be known at all times,” Orson said. “There truly is a concern from everyone, especially our family, that she will be a flight risk."

Judge Robert Dewane denied a change in bond, even citing Baur’s own safety.

"There is too much at stake. There's too many unanswered questions,” said Dewane. “For anyone to think she could go anywhere in this county and not be followed by somebody, I don't think they're living in reality."

Baur's partner Jesse Vang, who reported Elijah Vue missing, has also been charged with child neglect and remains in county jail.

Baur's next court appearance is in late May.
