Former Donald Trump aide Hope Hicks “broke down” in court on Friday, sending proceedings into a brief recess, according to reporters present at the former president’s hush money trial in Manhattan.
Hicks was called to testify at the trial by the prosecution on Friday and she detailed her long relationship with Trump, from his campaign to the White House.
Hicks said she has not spoken directly to the former president since 2022. She has served in multiple roles in Trump-world, including communications director in his White House. She also ended up testifying before the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
After testifying for the prosecution on Friday, Hicks “broke down” as Trump defense attorney Emil Bove began his cross-examination, leading the court to go into a short recess. MSNBC described Hicks as “emotional” and “crying” almost immediately when cross-examination began.
“I want to talk to you about your time at the Trump Organization,” Bove said to Hicks before the former Trump aide began to get emotional.
“Sorry about that,” Hicks said after returning to the stand, Zach Schonfeld reported for The Hill .
“No, it’s okay,” Bove replied.
Hicks detailed for the prosecution her time working on Trump’s first presidential campaign, which included handling crises like the infamous Access Hollywood tape .
The former president is facing more than 30 felony counts. He’s accused of falsifying business records to conceal hush money paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to cover up an alleged affair. He’s denied any knowledge of a hush money payment and the affair.
