In September 2002, the day after Mike Detmer turned twenty-two, he joined the U. S. Marine Reserves. In November 2022, eighteen years to the day after setting foot in Fallujah, Iraq, Detmer won election to Dorchester County Council, representing District 5. On Monday, May 27, 2024, Detmer, Council Vice President and 1997 CSD graduate, delivered a softly spoken but impassioned keynote address at American Legion Post 91 in Cambridge, where he is a member.
