Three new Lubbock city councilmen were sworn in Tuesday.

David Glasheen, Brayden Rose and Tim Collins took the oath of office and officially began their four-year terms representing city council districts 3, 4 and 6, respectively. Municipal Judge Jorge Hernandez was also sworn in for another four-year term.

Each won their seat by running uncontested in the May 4 municipal elections.

Glasheen, Rose and Collins replace outgoing councilmembers Mark McBrayer in District 3, Steve Massengale in District 4 and Latrelle Joy in District 6.

Joy is retiring after three terms on the council. Massengale and McBrayer resigned their seats to run for mayor; they will compete against each other in a mayoral runoff election June 15.

"Thank you for answering the call to serve. I know that all three of you and your families — especially your spouses and your families — care about this city," Mayor Tray Payne told the three new councilmen at a special ceremony Tuesday evening. "I look forward to working with you for the next six weeks and five days, and I can say with confidence that with you on the city council, and with the city councilmembers still serving, Lubbock will continue to be in good hands."

The council’s makeup will remain as it is for about six weeks, when the winners of the mayoral runoff and another runoff for District 2 are sworn in.

Gordon Harris and Anah Menjares are competing for the District 2 seat that Shelia Patterson Harris has held for the last two years. Patterson Harris opted not to run for re-election.
