A man accused of driving while intoxicated when he caused a crash that killed two people earlier this year in southwest Lubbock was indicted Tuesday by a grand jury.

Anthony Washington, 30, was indicted by a Lubbock County grand jury on two counts of manslaughter in connection to the March 27 crash that killed 20-year-old Blake Garza and 18-year-old Naomi Harry.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the crash that was reported about 9:52 p.m. March 27 at Spur 327 and Milwaukee Avenue, according to LPD.

Upon arrival, officers located two people inside a passenger car and another person inside a SUV. A passenger in the car, Harry, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the car, Garza, was taken with serious injuries to University Medical Center by ambulance. Garza was later pronounced dead.

Police say Washington, who was driving the SUV, suffered minor injuries. Through the initial course of the investigation, it appears, Garza was traveling east in the 6500 block of Spur 327 on the eastbound access road.

Meanwhile, Washington was traveling south in the 6000 block of Milwaukee Avenue, where the two vehicles collided.

Washington was arrested shortly after the crash and charged with two counts of Intoxication Manslaughter and one count of Resisting Arrest. He was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he remained on Tuesday. His combined bond is $500,000.
