Scottie Scheffler’s day was truly bananas .

The top-ranked golfer in the world was arrested early Friday morning before the second round of the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky after he allegedly “refused to comply” with local police.

Scheffler, 27, was eventually released from Louisville Metro Corrections and was able to golf on Friday at Valhalla Golf Club, shooting a 5-under 66.

After his whirlwind day, Scheffler spoke about what all went down after his arrest in which he was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

Scheffler said that after one police officer helped him calm down and get out of the car before he was booked and fingerprinted, another one asked the golfer if he wanted the “full experience” at the jail.

“This one older officer looked at me as I was doing my fingerprints or whatever, and he looks at me and he goes, ‘So do you want the full experience today?'” Scheffler recalled of the chaotic morning.

“I kind of looked at him, and I was like, I don’t know how to answer that.”

Scheffler said the officer then offered him a sandwich, which he accepted.

“I hadn’t eaten breakfast yet. I mean, they were really kind,” Scheffler said. “I’m grateful that we have such strong police, and they’re our protectors out there, and like I said, we just got into a chaotic situation this morning. That’s really all it was.”

Scheffler told reporters that his head was still “spinning” from Friday’s events.

As Scheffler tried to get ready for his round at the PGA Championship, a victim working for a vendor at the major was struck and killed by a shuttle bus .

The golfer, according to police, continued to drive to the course after being told stop.

The police report says Det. Bryan Gillis was dragged to the ground by Scheffler, but Scheffler’s attorneys say he “stopped immediately upon being directed to and never at any point assaulted any officer with his vehicle.”

One Kentucky attorney told Yahoo Sports that Scheffler has “about a zero percent chance” of being convicted of a felony in the case.

Scheffler told reporters after his second round he was not aware of the severity of what had happened near the course while he was first driving to Valhalla to get his warmup.

But Scheffler wasn’t able to get to the course as he had hoped because of his alleged actions and could not able to get ready at there as he had intended.

Unable to get to the course as he had intended due to his alleged actions, Scheffler said he had to prepare for his round in an unlikely place.

“I can’t really explain what happened this morning. I did spend some time stretching in a jail cell. That was a first for me. That was part of my warmup,” Scheffler said.

“I was just sitting there waiting and I started going through my warmup, I felt like there was a chance I may be able to still come out here and play. I started going through my routine and I tried to get my heart rate down as much as I could today, but like I said, I still feel like my head is spinning a little bit. But I was fortunate to be able to make it back out and play some golf today.”

Scheffler even said some of the police officers made jokes with him as he was booked.

“I was shaking the whole time. I was shaking for like an hour. It was definitely a new feeling for me,” the golfer recounted. “[One officer] came out and we had a nice chat and then the officers inside the jail were tremendous. A couple of them made some jokes I think when they figured out who I was and what happened and how I ended up there.”

Scheffler was booked shortly before 7:30 a.m. and released a little over an hour later, and he made it in time for his delayed tee time at 10:08 a.m.

After his round was over, Scheffler was seen on the broadcast of the tournament shaking hands with two Louisville officers as he exited the course.

Scheffler sat in a tie for third place on the leaderboard as the tournament gets ready for Round 3 on Saturday.
