A person is dead after a fire occurred at a home in Louisville's Parkland neighborhood Thursday, the Louisville Division of Fire said in a statement.

Department spokesperson Capt. Tamara Stewart said crews responded to a call about a house fire and possible rescue in the 700 block of South 33rd Street at around 4:19 a.m. and found heavy fire coming from the front and sides of the 1.5-story building. More than two dozen firefighters were called to the scene to put out the fire.

A person was found inside and transported to an area hospital for treatment, but later died of their injuries. A neighboring home was also significantly damaged by the fire, Stewart said.

The department's arson division is currently investigating the cause of the blaze.
