We Tried Pasties Across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, And This St. Ignace Bakery Was Our Favorite Stop
The beef pasty recipe at this little bakery hasn’t changed since 1947. Same diced beef, same potatoes, same onions, and yes, the same rutabaga. That kind of loyalty to a recipe is rare. I like how the family running it today still sticks to the original handcrafted method, even with a newer shop serving chicken and vegetarian options too.

Marquette bakery hopping— A guide to sweet treats in the 906 area
When students explore the Marquette area, they will find many local restaurants, bakeries and shops full of goodies. As a student on a budget, I find it hard to figure out which restaurants and bakeries are worth visiting. I struggle to find menus online because they are often outdated or only show a preview of what they actually serve. So this week, I decided to travel around Marquette and grab a few selections of treats from well-known bakeries in town. As a student, I first wanted to be a critic for a day to see if the treats were worth it for others with a sweet tooth like mine, and second, if I would go again and try more off the menu. So, for this week, I judged the following well-known bakeries, including Blossom Bird Bubble Tea, Huron Mountain Bakery and The Peace Pie Company.

No snow, no problem: 10 years of the UP200 Dryland Dash
NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WBUP/WJMN) — No snow? No problem. The UP200’s 10th Dryland Dash brought nearly 80 racers and their canine teammates to Negaunee Township Park over the weekend, proving sled dog racing isn’t just a winter sport. Competitors from across the Midwest and beyond raced on foot, bikes, scooters, wheeled rigs, and cani-cross teams around a scenic two-mile course surrounded by U.P. fall colors. The event serves as the unofficial kickoff to the mushing season and gives spectators a chance to experience the excitement of dog-powered racing before the snow flies.“Dryland is a way to get out with your dogs when there’s no snow on the ground,” said Jana Roberts, Dryland Dash volunteer. “People are running with their dogs, doing bike, scooter and rig races with teams of up to six dogs.”For many competitors, the Dryland Dash is an accessible entry point into mushing without the commitment of a full sled dog team.“It’s really hard to go from ‘I want to do this’ to a 12-dog team,” Jana explained. “This is a great way for someone with a dog that loves to pull to come out and experience the joy, excitement and fun of racing.”One racer, Betsy Heidt from
