Inaugural Lilac Hill room draw begins
Starting in Fall 2024, Carleton students will have the option to move into Lilac Hill, the newly constructed housing behind the Rec Center, on the north side of campus. Construction crews broke ground on the project in April 2023. Lilac Hill is the first phase of the Student Life and Housing Plan, which aims to restructure and improve Carleton housing while also aiding the college’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
Students express frustrations over priority parking
Social work, education, and nursing majors are eligible for priority parking, meaning they are first in line when it comes to securing a parking space on campus, especially upper hill lots such as Ytterboe, Ellingson, or Lot B near Rand Hall. In downtown Northfield sits the charming Petalina, a store opened in 2020 by Dennis and Karen Vinar, selling Scandinavian-style trinkets. The couple announced their retirement in Fall 2023 and intentions to sell the store. Two criminal counts against Waylon Kurts are dismissed; trial will proceed
In April, a Rice County judge dismissed two of the criminal counts charged by the state of Minnesota against former St. Olaf student Waylon Kurts. The judge granted motions by Kurts’ Defense to dismiss the counts of conspiracy to commit second-degree assault and conspiracy to commit threats of violence. The counts of terroristic threats and conspiracy to commit theft remain.
