Faribault softball wins big game against defending state champions
The Faribault softball team has been overall playing well and looking for that signature win to provide a confidence boost. With inconsistent fielding, the Falcons have taken some lumps, but when the defense is good, they have shown the ability to play with anyone. They proved that Thursday afternoon, winning a dramatic game at Alexander Park in the bottom of the fifth on a double by Amanda Cullen to beat defending state champion Mankato East 5-4. ...

AV’s Smith, Barnslater win two events each The Lakeville South girls and Eagan boys pushed through some unexpected bad weather to win team championships at the Eagan Wildcat Invitational track and field meet Tuesday. Lakeville South outdistanced South Suburban Conference rival Eagan by 34 points in the girls meet, while Eagan’s boys finished 39 points ahead of Woodbury. Apple Valley was third in the boys meet and fourth in the...
Huskies cruise past Faribault ahead of Winona matchup
Going into a Tuesday night matchup at Federated Park, the Owatonna Huskies and the Faribault Falcons were both looking to enter back into the win column, coming off losses in their prior games. Thanks to a strong performance in the circle from junior Lilly Trager and in the batter’s box all around, the Huskies came out on top with a 10-1 victory to improve to 5-3 on the season, while the Falcons dropped to 1-5 on their season. ...
TCU softball strikes 1st but falls to Jordan on the road
Monday evening, the Tri-City United softball team traveled to Jordan to take on the Jaguars, searching for its first win of the season. Despite taking an early lead in the top of the first, the Titans didn’t keep up the pace and eventually it was the Jaguars who pulled away for the 4-1 victory. With the loss, TCU is now 0-4 (0-2 MRC) on the season. Addison Schroer started in...
Wildcats’ lacrosse rally topples the champs
Eagan moves into top 10 in boys rankings When Eagan fell five goals behind in the fourth quarter against defending state boys lacrosse champion Lakeville North, it was not time for the Wildcats to panic – or even call timeout, for that matter. Instead of rattling cages, juggling the lineup or changing up strategy, Eagan coach Tony Mattia just let his team keep playing. It worked, as Eagan scored seven...
Faribault's Kramer picks up singles win, as Falcons show improvement against JM
While Faribault boys tennis lost 6-1 to Rochester John Marshall Tuesday, there was plenty positives to take from the occasion. All three Rochester teams are typically among the best in the Big 9 Conference. Last year, Faribault was swept 7-0 by JM, and their opponents had easily won in most of those matches. This year, Faribault (0-7 Big 9; 2-8 overall) showed solid improvement, challenging JM (5-1 Big 9) in...

SSC softball status report: Top teams are still the top teams
Rosemount, Farmington tied for first place The three South Suburban Conference teams that qualified for the state softball tournament in 2023 are still pretty tough in 2024. Several other teams in the league look poised to challenge Rosemount, Farmington and Shakopee, but they won’t be dislodged easily. Through Monday’s games, defending state Class 4A Rosemount was tied with Farmington for first in the conference at 5-1, with Shakopee and Lakeville...
Cardinals dominate in 4-inning route
“The game is over,” the umpire said, a bit to the relief of everyone, as Bethlehem Academy beat Lyle/Pacelli 19-1 on another windy Thursday afternoon in Faribault. The Cardinals posted nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to cruise towards a four-inning victory. There are only so many ways to politely unpack a game like this. If the Cardinals were needing a reminder that things could be worse, they need not look further than an undermanned, overmatched team across the plate from them. ...
