Olympia Museum Takeover Explores Indigenous Futures

OLYMPIA, WA — Since Oct. 2, the Coast Salish Museum of Fine Arts has “taken over” the Thurston County Museum of Fine Arts for a two month exhibition. Through Dec. 11, “Temporal: Stories of Indigenous Present, Re-imagining Indigenous Futures” features work by 14 Indigenous artists interpreting their own ideas of Indigenous futures through mediums including performance art, digital art, paintings, sculpture and traditional Indigenous art forms such as beading and weaving.

Good greens and low prices can't hide what is troubling Madrona Links

I want to love Madrona. Just west of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and a couple of minutes off State Route 16, it’s in an ideal location for west Tacoma, University Place and Gig Harbor residents. At its longest, Madrona Links is 5,600 yards. It has some drivable Par 4’s. It’s a fun layout — one that feels perfect for a casual round of golf. Pars are easy to come by with a decent drive. The vibe is low-key, not pretentious — the kind of place you can swing by on a summer afternoon with some buddies and crack a couple cold ones without worrying much about things like course strategy or the regrettable state of your game. But playing alongside good friend (and elite youth flag football coach) Johnny Miller on Tuesday morning, I kept shaking my head at the condition of the course. The tee boxes were beat up, as if most of the holes were Par 3’s. Sizable chunks of fairways throughout the course were in sad condition, devoid of grass or sometimes unplayable. The course has also been involved in a land dispute in recent years , a controversy that continued recently with a Pierce County Superior

1926 was a transitional year between events for the United States, laid right in the middle of the 1898-1934 Banana Wars, and only three years before The Great Depression. Mountlake Terrace wasn’t technically affected by it, not because they were immune to the events of the time, but because it did not exist as the city that currently stands. Mountlake Terrace wasn’t formally a city until 1954, nearly 30 years later. Rather, current-day Mountlake Terrace was once a part of the larger Alderwood Manor.
