In a dramatic turn of events yesterday (July 24, 2024), Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies successfully arrested two young car thief suspects after a high-stakes vehicle chase and river rescue. The incident began when deputies located a stolen vehicle in Tacoma. After the deputies tried to pull over the suspects, the vehicle fled and led to a pursuit that ended in the river behind a Fred Meyer store in Puyallup.
Seniors learn line dancing and more at KWA senior meal site
The Korean Women’s Association has a lot to celebrate lately. Thanks to funding from the Pierce County Human Services Aging & Disability Resources Division, KWA’s Tacoma senior meal site is bringing more ways to give seniors nutritious and culturally appropriate meals along with fun activities like line dancing to get them up and moving. Submitted by Bob Warfield. Larry Saunders served our country and our city with distinction, retiring from the Army to organize Lakewood’s Police Department, as our first Chief. Home from Iraq, after returning to Army service to establish the National Police College in Baghdad, Larry honored Lakewood with tireless community service benefiting our Boys & Girls Club, our two Rotary Clubs, local veterans and neighborhood associations, and the Lakewood Community Foundation Fund (LCFF). Larry was a ray of light, touching the lives of everyone he knew with inspired civic pride. We were stunned when he died one morning in January, 2016.

The Lakewood Farmers Market and Summer Nights at the Pavilion Summer Concert return to Fort Steilacoom Park Tuesday, July 30. The Lakewood Farmers Market runs every Tuesday from 2-7 p.m. and will continue uninterrupted through Sept. 17.
